Start of Summer by ColourYourDayHappy

Hi everyone! This is Glòria , the artist behind ColourYourDayHappy.
In this ‘Step by Step’ entry I want to share how I used  ZIG® CLEAN COLOR Real Brush.

My main idea when developing this design was to keep it as simple as possible so that the focus on the final piece would be on the incredible bright and clean colours that the ZIG® CLEAN COLOR Real Brush collection offers.
So to celebrate Start of Summer  I created a fresh and happy postcard to celebrate the beginning of a new season.
THIS IS THE STEP BY STEP PROCESS:
1. PREPARE MATERIALS
 ·               ZIG® CLEAN COLOR Real Brush
044 Deep Green, 041 Light Green, 050 Yellow, 065 Mid Brown, 070 Orange and 029 Geranium Red
·               Coloured pencils  and an eraser
·               Watercolour paper
·               Cup of coffee (optional J)

3. LOOK FOR INSPIRATION
To celebrate Summer I was inspired by one of my favourite summer fruit, watermelon.
4. CHOOSE COLOURS
Working with the colour chips, select the colours to use for the project.
MAKE A COLOUR WHEEL
Create a colour wheel using colour chips, with the colours you to are planning on using. In this case I wanted to use a cold (green) colour and a hot (red) colour to represent the transition from spring freshness to summer heat
5. DRAW
Use coloured pencils to draw the design. By doing this you make sure no pencil marks will show underneath the watercolour paint.
Keep the drawing both free and minimal. I decided to and green and red apples and cherries to the design for their colours (red and green).
6. PAINT THE APPLES
Start by using the darker colour 029 Geranium red.
Paint loose. Colours and shape will be defined later when water is added.
Paint using a lighter colour,  070 Orange.
7. ADD WATER
Add water to the apples. This gives the apples a watery look.
Let colours melt into each other to create infinite shades.
8. ADD BROWN FOR CONTRAST and DETAILS
Paint using 065 Mid Brown to add contrast to the design.
·         Apples: paint stem, seeds and sepals remnants
·         Cherries: stem
·         Watermelons: seeds
9. ERASE PENCIL MARKS

10. DRAW the WORD SUMMER
Alternate these 3 colours, 044 Deep Green, 041 Light Green and 029 Geranium Red, to write the word summer.

11. ADD WATER
12. SEND THE POTCARD TO SOME ONE YOU LOVE
Or use it to invite family and friend to a party,
or keep in the fridge,
or use it as a screen saver for your computer,
or print it onto a T-shirt or a tote bag ,
or ….

At this point I can only say that it was really fun to paint this start summer design and that I hope you find this ‘step by step’ tutorial useful and inspiring.

Until next time,
Glòria
